Places to Visit: Mr. West

If I could live in a café, this would be the one. Just set me up with my own space in the nook behind the bar where the windows look out at the back patio.

All jokes aside, I’m obsessed with this place. From the aesthetic to the friendly people to, of course, the food and drinks. Mr. West is a daytime café and evening bar, but everything on the menu blends seamlessly and you can enjoy just about anything all day. It’s a great spot for weekend brunch, weekday happy hour, or even just a quick coffee run.

One of my favorite things about Mr. West is the weekday morning ambiance. Packing up the laptop and working from a comfy seat surrounded by plants and a steady bustle makes for a productive day. And the counter service is perfect for a day of grazing pastries and avocado toast in between coffee orders.

While social restrictions are making me miss those weekday vibes, takeout and to-go counter service are still available. Both patios are also open for spaced out seating, easy for a quick bite or cup of coffee just outside the big windows of the café.

And don’t forget to check out the shop before you leave. A huge variety of plants, books, wine, and decor is merchandised beautifully near the front counter. It’s a good place to find a gift for a loved one (or even yourself) on the way out.

See here for Mr. West’s full menu and offerings, as well as locations and hours. I go to the University Village location, but there’s also a café in downtown Seattle.

In need of an Aperol Spritz at home to go with that takeout? Here’s the recipe for you.
